Karachi: The following teams qualified for the Semi Finals of 9th AKU Inter-University Football Tournament 2011 being organized by AKU Sports Centre at the AKU Football Ground. Hamdard University (HU) will play against Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) while NED University of Engineering & Technology (NEDUET) will play against the host Aga Khan University (AKU).
Both semi-finals will take place on Wednesday, 13 April 2011.
In first quarter-final, NED University eased past PNEC-NUST 2-0 with goals in each half from Jamshed Umar (3′) and Khizer Khan (49′). In second quarter-final, Hamdard University (HU) smashed PAF-KIET 11-2. A hat trick by Yasin Lashari (5′,15′,54′) followed by braces from Shehzad Afzal (3′,10′), Abdul Malik (2′,55′), Sir Syed (24′,34′), and Nadir Ali (34′,56′) helped Hamdard humiliate PAF-KIET, who only managed two goals in second half through Ismail Javed (51′) and Syed Danish Hasan (53′).
In 3rd quarter-final, hosts Aga Khan University (AKU) beat Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST) 4-2. A hat-trick by Karachi United star Rehan Munir (16′,29′,35′) and one by Jalaluddin Umar (19′) helped AKU race to a 4-0 lead by early second half. However, SZABIST responded through Ali Zia (37′) and Yawar Nabi (40′) to make the score more respectable to their side as AKU won 4-2 at the end.
In 4th quarter-final, Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) got an easy 4-0 win over Institute of Business Administration (IBA) United team. Goals from Arsalan Khan (15′), Shahab Uddin (22′) and Zahoor Shah (28′) helped BUITEMS reach a 3-0 lead by half time with Shah Saud scoring a goal in second half (36′) to complete the easy win over IBA United.
The matches were supervised by Referees Naseer Umar, Khalid Mumtaz, M. Yousuf, and Javed Bangash, with Official Scorer Sajjad Akbar and Match Commissioner Munawar Khan.
