The 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11 saw its final quarter-final played at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi on Tuesday, 15 March 2011 between Al-Shabaz Korangi and favourites Young Ansari. However the game proved to be a rowdy scrappy affair with red card incidents and a penalty shoot-out that saw Al-Shabaz hold their nerve to go through to the semi-finals.
The game started at a frantic pace with Al-Shabaz’s Shah Alam, Akhtar Rasheed, and Fareed Alam, and Young Ansari’s Umar Nawab, Muhammad Nabi, Ali Murad, and Hameed Afridi wasting many chances to score in opening minutes. Both teams showed aggressive behaviour in the game. Young Ansari suffered a massive blow when referee Javed Bangash sent-off Hameed Afridi for a red card offence in 32nd minute as Young Ansari went down to 10 men. Al-Shabaz utilised their man advantage as they put their opponents under immense pressure, but no goals were scored at half-time.
In 2nd half, Al-Shabaz finally broke the deadlock when Shah Alam scored past onrushing Young Ansari goalie Shoaib Khan to make it 1-0. Despite being a man down, Young Ansari did not back down against the odds, and with just 6 minutes remaining Muhammad Nabi equalised for his team. 3 minutes later, Al-Shabaz went a man down when midfielde Jahangir was sent-off for a 2nd yellow card offence. Neither side could score as the game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Extra time also did not yield any goals, as penalty shoot-out was used to decide the tie.
Al-Shabaz goalkeeper Manzoor Alam was in fine form in goal as he saved spot kicks from Ali Murad, Ammad Khan, and Rasheed Peera while only. Manzoor did, however, saw his spot kick come crashing off the post as Shah Alam, Muhammad Yousaf, and Abdul Hameed scored their tries for Al-Shabaz to go through to the KFL 2010-11 semi-finals.
The semi-final line-up is now complete with Baloch Mujahid and Mauripur Baloch squaring off at 6 PM on Sunday 20 March 2011 and Al-Shabaz Korangi facing off Baloch Youth Garden at 6 PM on Monday 21 March 2011.
