Lahore, 29 March: Durdana Faisal, President of Diya Women FC has announced strong 29-player squad which will provide challenge in 4th National Women Football Club Championship 2011 to be held from 6-13 April 2011 simultaneously at four zones viz Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. Diya and National Women Champions Young Rising Star (Rawalpindi) are two Women Club who got the honour of becoming PFF Congress member during last PFF Congress.
Diya Club will be among participants from Karachi alongwith TCFC, Karachi Women, Marta Women and Karachi Kickers. “the first six editions of National Women Championship went into grasp of Punjab, WAPDA, Sports Sciences and Young Rising Star and Sindh women’s team are serious about winning the coming 7th National event after getting slot through Club event. Sindh’s teams did put up brave fights in national events but the final spark was missing from the teams of this province,” said Sadia, founder and secretary of famous Diya Women FC that visited Sri Lanka in 2007 and Malaysia in 2008. Diya was bronze medallist in 3rd National Women Football Championship 2007. Sadia is also sponsor of The City Football Club (TCFC), based in Sea view Apartment, Phase V, DHA Karachi.
Nine-goal Hajra Khan, who finished top scorer in 2008 National Event, 2007 event’s MVP Marium Laghari and Mehwish Khan, who had the privilege of attending FIFA Regional Coaching Course for Women’s Football in September 2010 at Colombo are in current Diya squad. Hajra was also adjudged Most valuable player (MVP) last year winning the “Misha Dawood Trophy”. All three players also represented Pakistan in eight-nation First SAFF Women Football Championship last December in the tourist resort of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
