Lyari League U-14 players to receive dues

KARACHI, Feb 22: The 18 playing members of the 16 teams that took part in last month`s KESC U-14 Lyari Football League will finally be paid their dues by the PFF.

“We have dispatched to Karachi the entire amount to be presented to the children in the form of bank drafts in their father`s names,” said PFF`s Director Marketing and Event Management Sardar Naveed Haider Khan while speaking to Dawn on Tuesday.

The conclusion of the league on Jan 24 had raised many complaints from the young players as well as the event sponsors KESC when all the envelopes said to contain Rs90,000 each that were given away to the participating teams along with the winners` cheques and individual prizes were, later, on closer inspection, found to be empty.

But the PFF maintained that they had done so with the children`s best interests at heart as they didn`t want to give them so much cash without knowing what they would be doing with the money.—Sports Reporter
