The 8th Karachi Football League witnessed two games on Monday, 7 Feb 2011 at two venues. In Group ‘B’, Shazad Mohammadan (Malir) trounced Korangi Gymkhana 4-1 to qualify for quarter-finals as top 4 in their group at Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground, Garden West. In Group ‘A’, Shabaz Green (Banaras) were held 1-1 by Malir Union at Baloch Mujahid Stadium. As a result, Korangi Gymkhana, Shabaz Green, Malir Union failed to make the next round after completing their alloted 9 group games.
Shazad Mohammadan raced into a 3-0 lead at half time against Korangi Gymkhana thanks to goals from Fazal Baloch (11′), Muhammad Baloch (24′), and Asghar Baloch (38′). Aneel Ansari made it 3-1 in 54th minute for Korangi Gymkhana but Akhtar Baloch made it 4-1 a minute before the full time whistle. The result left Shazad Mohammadan in 2nd place with 17 points from their full quota of 9 games while Korangi Gymkhana finished 10th place with 4 points from 9 games in Group ‘B’.
Shabaz Green and Malir Union played out a 2-2 draw at Baloch Mujahid Stadium, Ibrahim Hyderi for their final group stage game. Kashif Niaz gave Shabaz Green the lead after 15 minutes, but Muhammad Rashid equalised for Malir Union 5 minutes later as the game was poised 1-1 at half time. Rehman Khan made it 2-1 for Shabaz Green in 54th minute but Malir Union equalised again through Afzal Murad in 85th minute to end the game 2-2. The result left Shabaz Green on 10 points from 9 games (7th Position) while Malir Union have 7 points from 8 games (9th position) in Group ‘A’. However, both teams are out of contention for quarter-finals stage.
Referees were Ibrar Hussain, Adnan Khan, Babar Khan, Farrukh Riaz while match commissioner was Abdul Karim (member Central Zone).
