Friday, 11 Feb 2011, witnessed two Group ‘A’ matches at Baloch Mujahid Stadium, Ibrahim Hyderi in 8th Karachi Football League. Venue hosts Baloch Mujahid beat Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) 3-0 while defending champions Chanesar Blue were held 1-1 by tournament organisers Karachi United.
The results left Baloch Mujahid and Chanesar Blue confirming their top-4 spots in Group ‘A’ after finishing on 18 points each (1st and 2nd respectively) from their completed quota of 9 games to qualify for quarter-finals stage. Burma Mohammadan finished their quota of 9 games with 12 points to bow out of the competition in 6th place, while Karachi United still maintained their charge for top-4 spot lying 5th with 14 points from 7 games.
Muhammad Nadeem (15′) and midfielder Umer Bakhsh (21′, 89′) scored the goals for Baloch Mujahid to guarantee them a place in next round from Group ‘A’ with an easy 3-0 win over Burma Mohammadan. Shaukat Ali gave Chanesar Blue a 48th minute lead but Karachi United’s Sajjad Ali equalised late in 88th minute to share the points and continue KUFC’s own shot for top-4 spot while Chanesar Blue qualified with the draw.
Match referees were Adnan Khan and Iqrar Hussain alongside assistants Farrukh Riaz and Muhammad Kamran, while match commissioners were Abdul Karim (member, Central Zone) and Saleem Arif.
On Sunday, 20 Feb 2011, Baloch Mujahid Stadium will host the Salaar Welfare Centre (Malir) vs Mauripur Baloch and Karachi United vs Baloch Youth Garden games, while Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground Garden West will see hosts Aga Khan Gymkhana play Kalri Star (Lyari).
