KFL 2010-11: Al-Shabaz hold Salaar WC in thriller 3-3

In the 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11, Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi witnessed a six-goal thriller as Al-Shabaz Korangi held Salaar Welfare Centre Malir 3-3 in Group ‘B’. The Group ‘A’ game held at Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground, Garden West saw Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) ease past minnows Orangi Mohammadan 3-0 as the later finished their quota of 9 group games without any points. Both games were held on Friday 4th Feb 2011.

A capacity crowd was delighted for full 90 minutes as Al-Shabaz and Salaar Welfare battled out for a 3-3 draw with goals galore. Shah Alam gave Al-Shabaz a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes, but a minute later Salaar striker Abdul Haleem equalised with a headed goal of his own. Abdul Haleem then scored again in 20th minute to give his side the lead, as well as scoring his 10th goal of the current KFL campaign to become top scorer ahead of Hameed Afridi (Young Ansari). Al-Shabaz equalised just before half time when a 25-yard shot from captain Jahangir Sattar beat Salaar goalie Asif to make it 2-2 at the break.

In 2nd half, the topsy turvy tempo continued as Muhammad Asif gave Salaar a 3-2 lead in 54th minute but Akhtar Rasheed made it 3-3 in 75th minute. The game eventually finished a staggering 3-3 at the end with both teams earning 1 point each. The result meant that Al-Shabaz retains top spot in Group ‘B’ with 15 points from 8 games while Salaar WC remain 8th with 8 points from 7 games. Salaar hero Abdul Haleem was declared man of the match by KFL organising secretary Riaz Ahmed for his 2 goals in the game.

At Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground, Burma Mohammadan made short work of lowly Orangi Mohammadan as they ran away comfortable 3-0 winners in their Group ‘A’ fixture. Muhammad Jaffar (13′), Saifullah (41′), and Noor Alam (71′) scored once each for the Korangi side as Orangi Mohammadan finished their KFL campaign with 0 points from 9 games and bottom position in Group ‘A’. Burma Mohammadan now lie 6th place with 12 points from 7 games as they maintain pressure on their rivals for a top-4 finish.

Referees were Iqrar Hussain, Ibrar Hussain, Babar Khan, Adnan Khan, Farrukh Riaz, while match commissioners were Abdul Karim (Member Central Zone) and Saleem Arif.

On Sunday (06.02.2011), 4 games will be played divided equally among two venues. Aga Khan Gymkhana Ground will host Kalri Star vs Salaar Welfare Centre (1:30 PM) and Aga Khan Gymkhana vs Gulshan-e-Ittehad (3:30 PM). Baloch Mujahid Stadium will host Mauripur Baloch vs Sindh Balochistan (3 PM) and Young Ansari vs Burma Mohammadan (5 PM).
