Tournament organisers Karachi United overcame Shabaz Green (Zone West) in a tight 1-0 affair while Young Ansari (Zone West) beat neighbours Orangi Mohammadan 6-2 to record their second successive victories in the 8th Karachi Football League 2010-11, Group ‘A’ at Baloch Mujahid Stadium in Ibrahim Hyderi, Karachi. Both winning teams earned 3 precious points each to go on 6 points after two games. Shabaz Green and Orangi Mohammadan could not open their account from 2 and 3 matches respectively.
Waleed Kidwai scored decisive goal for KUFC while Hameed Afridi smashed 4 goals for Young Ansari. Young Ansari’s other scorers were Sheikh Iftikhar and Muhammad Nabi, while Kashif Azam and Ghulam Haider scored for Orangi Mohammadan. KFL organising secretary Riaz Ahmed declared KUFC’s Karim Kerai, and Young Ansari’s Hameed Afrid as the respective man of the matches.
A tense afair between KUFC and Shabaz Green saw the game delicately poised 0-0 at half-time. However the game exploded into life in last 15 minutes when Shabaz Green’s Saeed Ahmed was sent-off with a straight red card for serious foul play in 76th minute. Barely one minute from the incident had passed when Waleed Kidwai scored the only goal of the game for Karachi United as they won 1-0 on final whistle.
In second game, Young Ansari dominated their opponents when they raced into a 2-0 lead inside 40 minutes thanks to 2 goals from striker Hameed Afridi (18th and 40th min). However, Orangi Mohdn.’s Kashif Azam made it 2-1 in 41st minute. In second half, Young Ansari scored 4 more times while Orangi Mohammadan only managed one more. Sheikh Iftikhar (72nd min), Hameed Afridi (75th and 87th min) and Muhammad Nabi (85th min) completed Young Ansari’s emphatic victory while Ghulam Haider scored for Orangi Mohdn in 75th min to finish the game 6-2 in favour of Young Ansari.
Referees for the matches were Adnan Khan, Babar Khan, and Farrukh Riaz while match commissioner was Abdul Karim (Member Central Zone).
