Karachi Football Round-up: Hussain Baloch Football and New Years Friendly

The All-Karachi Hussain Baloch Benefit Memorial Football Tournament hosted by Malir National FC witnessed 3 matches at Old Thana Ground Malir. According to organising secretary Rafique Baloch, all games were decided by penalty shoot-outs after drawn scores at end of normal time. The winning sides qualified for pre quarter-final stage.

Baloch Union West beat Malir Red 5-4 on penalties after 0-0 score in normal time. Amir, Umair, Adil, Sohail, and Muhammad Bakhsh scored their attempts for Baloch Union West, but only Anees, Tehseen, Shahid, and Farhan could convert their tries for Malir Red.

Dilbod Mohammadan Malir beat Baloch Youth Garden 8-7 on penalties after a 0-0 normal time scoreline. Jam XI beat Mauripur Greeks 5-3 in shoot out. Liaquat, Ilyas, Arif, Imdad and Ibrahim scored for Dilbod Mohdn while only Akhtar, Adnan, and Shahid could score for Mauripur Greeks.

Referees were Naseer Umar, Muhammad Arif, and Muhammad Saleem while Match Commissioner was Master Abdul Rahim and media coordinator was Khalid Majeed.

Korangi Gymkhana beat Baloch Star 1-0 at Baloch Star Ground, Sharafi in a friendly match on occassion of New Years 2011. Korangi’s captain Rehan Ansari scored the winning goal of the game in second half.

The interesting aspect of the game was the presence of Chicago-based guest goalkeeper Daniyal Bari who played for Korangi Gymkhana. Daniyal Bari showed impressive composure and skill in keeping a clean sheet for his adopted team in the friendly. Spectators and football enthusiasts applauded and praised the ability of Daniyal throughout the game for Korangi Gymkhana.

Both sides created chances but it was not until the last moments of the game when Korangi Gymkhana striker Wasim Ahmed played a superb pass to team captain Rehan Ansari, who finished with style to give his side the 1-0 victory.
