Karachi Football Round-up

Hosted by Colony Star FC (North Karachi), the opening game of the 5th All-Karachi Saqib Memorial Football Tournament saw Babar Sports beat the hosts 5-1. Aman Baig scored twice while Moin, Jaffar, and Babar Khan scored once each for winners while Shah Khalid scored lone goal for Colony Star.

According to the tournament organising secretary Saad Kazmi, the Saqib Memorial Tournament will involve 16 of Karachi’s top teams on a knock-out format to be held under floodlights after sunset. He also requested all teams to be on time for the competition. The tournament was opened by chief guest and social worker Hameed Bhai who also met both teams at half-time break. Also present as guests were Abdul Karim (Member Central Zone) and Riaz Ahmed (veteran football journalist).

The All-Karachi Hussain Baloch Benefit Memorial Football Tournament at Old Thana Ground, Malir witnessed 6 teams go through to the pre-quarter finals stage of the event. According to organising secretary Rafique Baloch, Malir Star beat Mauripur Baloch 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 score. Baloch Youth Malir also beat Hazara Mohammadan 4-3 on penalties. Tournament hosts Malir National beat Drigh Road XI 2-0 thanks to goals by Asif and Munawar.

Sindh Balochistan beat Hunter Sports 2-0 with goals from Nadir and Ashiq. Sajidi Muhammadan Gulshan beat Baloch FC Malir 4-1 with goals from Liaquat, Yaseen, Noor Bakhsh and Malik while only Fida Hussain managed one for losing side. Azad XI Malir beat Baloch Bahar Malir 4-2 on penalties.

The All-Dalmia Champions Trophy League Football Tournament final was decided on penalties when Yaseen Star beat Gharib Nawaz 5-4 in the shootout after a 0-0 normal time scoreline to win the tournament. Chief guest for the final was Jamaat-e-Islami (Sindh) member Asadullah Bhutto who distributed prizes and awards to both teams and players.

In the previous semis, Yaseen Star had beaten Bashir XI 1-0 thanks to a Naseer Hussain goal while Gharib Nawaz had beaten Green Mujahid 2-1 with goals from M. Saeed and Zubair Ahmed with Naseer Naz managing one for Green Mujahid.
