PIA overcome PEL with narrow 1-0 win

Lahore, 8 Dec: Powerful spearhead Nazeer Ahmed struck lone goal when PIA edged out tenacious PEL in the 199th encounter of the Pakistan Premier Football League 2010 at Sharafi Goth’s Korangi Baloch Stadium, Landhi Town. Nazeer was also one of the scorers when in the first leg at MTFA, Lahore Nasr Ullah Khan PIA crafted 2-1 win on 25 October.

Nazeer Ahmed did the scoring in the 27 minute of first session when he controlled Hussain Abbas’s right wing cross on his legs and swept the ball past Bannu-born keeper Saqib Hanif. PEL, down 0-1 at interval, had great chances of equalizer when PIA were down at ten-men in last 19 minutes following dismissal of midfielder Saddam Hussain who represented Pakistan in ASIAD at China recently. He was given marching orders by FIFA Referee Shahid Hussain (Okara). But PEL failed to capitalize on the chances through Saad Ullah, Asmat Ullah, Riaz Ahmed while PIA gloveman Abu Bakar was also brilliant under the cage.

PIA, having 46 points in 24 games, played the match under their former striker Naushad Baloch as manager Tariq Lutfi and Shamim Khan had duties with PFF. The airmen are now third behind WAPDA and KESC on points table. Lahore-based PEL managed 37 points in 25 matches.
