National Bank off to winning start in 2010 PPL

KARACHI, Sept 17: The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) edged past the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) 1-0 while the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) played a 0-0 draw in the two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches played at different centres of Karachi on Friday.

The NBP clashed with SSGC at the Korangi Baloch Stadium in Sharafi Goth. After several missed chances from frontrunners Farooq Shah, Mohammad Asif, and Misbah-ul-Haq, the decider finally came in the 82nd minute through the bankers’ newly-signed midfielder Javed Hamza.

Playing his first match for the NBP, Javed transferred to the NBP earlier this year after having represented the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) team for the past few years.

Meanwhile, at the Peoples Sports Complex, PIA were held to a goalless draw by the HBL when the former failed to score on several opportunities due to their poor finishing.

On the other hand, PIA’s goalkeeper Abu Bakr, too, just wouldn’t let anything coming from the bankers get past him.

Saturday’s fixtures: PAF v KRL at PAF Complex, Peshawar; Navy v Army at Municipal Stadium, Rawalpindi; PMC Athletico v Wapda at Railway Ground, Faisalabad; PEL v Young Blood FC at MTFA Ground, Lahore. Matches kick off at 4.00pm.
