PPL Champion K-Electric secure first win in Challenge Cup [Pak Observer]

Peshawar—Pakistan Premier League Champion Karachi Electric Corporation team defeated Punjab in the ongoing All-Pakistan Shama Challenge Football Cup being played here at Sumbal Khan Football ground, Qayyum Sports Complex on Sunday.

Former Pakistan team goal-keeper Muhammad Aslam Khan was the chief guest on this occasion and before the start of the match the players of both the teams Karachi Electric Corporation and Punjab were introduced to him. Organizing Secretary Basit Kamal, Malik Hidayat Ullah Khan, VP DFA Peshawar Zahir Shah, and a large number of spectators witnessed the thrilling match.

The match was started on fast tempo and the forwards of K-Electric and Punjab put in pressure on each other defence with some beautiful goal-fetching moves were also witnessed but the goal-keepers of both KE and Punjab played a superb game by thwarting each other attempts.

Punjab team also made some inroads but the deep defenders of K-Electric did not give rooms to the strikers to score any goal. The first-half ended in a goal-less draw and despite attacking game none of the team could get any lead.

It was the second session in which Karachi Electrics Corporation fully dominated the proceedings and got position of the ball by making some good attacking moves.
Their forwards time and again shattered the rival defence as a result it was in the 66th minute when winger Riaz slammed in a beautiful goal to give much needed lead to K-Electric.

After taking lead, Karachi Electric Corporation, a team consecutively winning Pakistan Premier League, kept up pressure on the Punjab defence but Punjab goal-keeper Sajawal played like rock and did not allow any attempt, thus the match ended at 1-0 in favour of KE.

Amin Ullah supervised the match while Abdul Rehman and Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah acted as deputy referees while Qazi Asif was the match referee.—APP
