ZTBL grabs a point against PAF

KARACHI: Arsalan struck in the dying moments to guide Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) hold Pakistan Air Force (PAF) 1-1 while Afghan FC were given a walkover after Navy failed to turn up for the game of the 9th Pakistan Premier Football League on Monday.

At the PAF Complex in Peshawar, Arsalan scored an equaliser two minutes from time as ZTBL held PAF after a tight game to take their points to 20 from 20 meetings.

Earlier, PAF got onto the score-sheet through Mohammad Sher in the 56th minute. In the first half both sides played with great commitment but failed to capitalize on the opportunities that came their way.

“It was a bad day for us,” PAF coach Mohammad Arshad told ‘The News’ from Peshawar.

“We conceded the goal at a crucial stage due to our goalkeeper’s blunder as Arsalan’s drive went through the hands of our gloveman Khalid Khan,” Arshad said.

“Overall we had an upper hand and also squandered a couple of easy chances in the first half,” added Arshad, also a former international.

Defender Mohammad Ghazi of ZTBL was declared the best player of the show for playing clinically in the deep. PAF, with the single point, moved to the third place with 40 points from 21 meetings.

Meanwhile, Afghan FC got a walkover after their rivals Navy did not turn up for the outing which was scheduled to be held at the crowd-pulling venue of the Government High School Ground, Chaman.

Afghan FC, as a result, were given three points and three goals which propelled them to 22 points from 19 appearances. Navy, on the other hand, have 20 points from 19 meetings.

Today’s fixtures: Muslim FC v PIA (Government High School, Chaman).
