KARACHI: Punjab Medical College Athletico Faisalabad cruised into the quarter-finals after inflicting a 3-1 defeat on Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in their Group A last league match of the National Under-22 Football tournament at the Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur on Sunday, 29 April 2012.
With the win, PMC Athletico ended their league round with six points thanks to two victories.
Mujahid Ali scored a fine hat-trick in PMC Athletico’s spectacular victory by finding the nets in 14th, 42nd and 78th minute. Junaid Qadir, who also plays for Pakistan Under-22, scored the consolation goal for KPT in the 89th minute.
Meanwhile, District Football Association (DFA) Bahawalpur whipped Chaman’s Muslim FC 4-0 in their Group D game to open their account.
Saeed Ahmad scored a brace, while Naseem Ahmad and Asmatullah netted one goal apiece.
Meanwhile, in Group C match the other day on 28 April 2012, Punjab defeated Lahore’s Wohaib FC 3-1 while Sindh pulled off a goalless draw against Nushki’s Baloch FC in their Group B encounter.
For Punjab, a brace from Naeem Riaz and a goal from Muhammad Atif helped them overcome Wohaib.
