The Engro Vopak Football League 2012 saw venue hosts Jam XI (Malir) edge past Salar Welfare Centre (Malir) 1-0 in the 2nd semi-final to face Azam Sports (Drigh Road) in the final to be played later in the week. Salar WC now face Baloch Mohammadan in 3rd place game that will be held before the final.
The fixture at Jam Stadium (Malir, Karachi) played yesterday, 31 March 2012, was an action-packed affair that thrilled the crowd. Both sides created numerous chances only to be denied by opposing goalkeepers, Arshad Nabi (Jam XI) and Adeel Rasheed (Salar WC).
Jam XI went 1-0 up just before half-time when M Aamir’s shot was saved by Adeel Rasheed, only for the lurking Abdul Razzaq to score from the rebound in 45+1 minute. The goal proved to be enough for the rest of the game as Jam XI held on to book a place in the final.
Jam XI’s Abdul Razzaq was awarded Man of the Match award by national football organiser Usman Baloch. Referees were Javed Bangash, Habib Ullah, Imran Hussain, 4th official Abdul Basit, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
The Engro Vopak League 2012 final will be attended by Engro Vopak Managing Director Imran ul Haq. The winning team will pocket Rs 50,000 cash prize, 2nd place Rs 30,000 prize, and 3rd place will get Rs 20,000. Individual prizes for best player, best goalkeeper, and top scorer will also be rewarded.
