Salar Welfare Centre eliminate Rovers from Engro League

Salar Welfare Centre (Malir) recorded an emphatic 3-0 win in 4th Quarter-final of the Engro Vopak Football League 2012 over tournament organisers FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) yesterday at Jam Stadium (Malir, Karachi) 28 March 2012.

The match was a tense affair as both sides missed glorious chances and the game remained 0-0 until 72nd minute. Rovers defender Talha Khalid was sent off for a foul on Salar striker Amin Chottu in the box. Amin then stepped up and slotted home the penalty as 10-man Rovers were left with a mountain to climb.

Amin Chottu then made it 2-0 just 4 minutes later with his second goal of the game. Substitute striker Abdul Haleem then confirmed 3-0 win for Salar Welfare Centre with goal in stoppage time (90+2′).

The win helped Salar WC reach the semi-finals while knocking out FC Rovers from the tournament. Salar WC now face hosts Jam XI in the semis. Amin Chottu was awarded man of the match award for his performance by senior FIFA referee M Iqbal Jr.

Referees were Habib Ullah, Imran Hussain, Khalid Mumtaz, Abdul Basit, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
