Irfan Memorial confirm place in Engro Vopak quarter-finals

Irfan Memorial 2-1 Burma Mohammadan

Irfan Memorial (Landhi) confirmed their place in the Last-8 of the Engro Vopak Football League 2012 with an exciting 2-1 win over Group A rivals Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) to join Dilbod Mohammadan and Baloch Mohammadan in the next round.

Jam Stadium, Malir witnessed a tense game yesterday 16 March 2012 as Burma Mohammadan and Irfan Memorial both were denied by rival goalkeepers in first half. However, Burma Mohammadan went 1-0 up before half time when Anees Ahmed combined well with Imran Shakoor to score. But Irfan Memorial equalised just before the whistle (45+3′) when M Fahim scored from a Afzal Baloch corner.

Irfan Memorial came close twice from making it 2-1 but Ayaz Samoo and Fazal Baloch missed those chances. Anees Ahmed finally made it 2-1 when his kick hit the post and crossed the goal line in 79th minute. Burma Mohammadan tried to respond with a goal of their own but they failed to equalise as Irfan Memorial ran away 2-1 winners at the end.

Referees were Aziz Pasha, M Imran, Imran Hussain, 4th official Arif Hameed, and match commissioner Abdul Karim. Afzal Baloch of Irfan Memorial was named man of the match and given Rs 500 cash award on behalf of FC Rovers management.

Hamara Karachi 7-a-side: 3 games decided

Rovers, Korangi Gymkhana, National Soccer win.

The Hamara Karachi 7-a-side Floodlit Football Festival at National Soccer Academy Ground in Paposh saw the decision of 3 games yesterday. All winning sides qualified for the next round.

FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) beat Ibrahim Memorial (Banaras) 2-1 thanks to a brace from star Irfan Junejo, while Yousaf Khan managed one for losing side.

Korangi Gymkhana beat Jehangir Memorial (DFA Central) 3-1 with a brace from Aneel Ansari as well as a goal from Abdul Aziz. Sajjad scored for losing side.

Home side National Soccer FC beat Gulsan Soccer Campus-3 with a lone goal from Sameer Taj.

Referees were Babar Khan and Habib Khan, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.
