Burma Mohdn. held by Rovers late in KUFL Super League

The 9th UBL Omni Karachi United Football League 2011-12 Super League phase saw Burma Mohammadan (Korangi) concede late on against FC Rovers (Malir Cantt) and be held to a 1-1 draw today, 2 March 2012, at Korangi Baloch Stadium (Sharafi, Karachi).

Burma Mohammadan tested Rovers goalkeeper Shehzad Ahmed early on and Noor Alam and Anees Ahmed forced smart saves out of him after 19 minutes played. Abdur Rahim almost put Burma 1-0 up as he pounced on a horrible back pass from Rovers defender Usama Noor, but failed to score. Rovers pressed later in the half as Irfan Junejo failed to capitalise a superb pass from Arif Shehzad, allowing Burma Mohammadan goalkeeper-captain Abdul Ghani to clear the danger.

The game was a tight 0-0 at half time. In 2nd half, Burma Mohammadan finally made it 1-0 when Anees Ahmed’s neat lob from an Abdur Rahim pass beat Rovers goalie Shehzad Ahmed all ends up and find the back of the net from a tight angle in 58th minute.

Rovers responded by laying siege to the opposition goal, but were unlucky not to equalise. First young striker Areeb Zaidi failed to beat the ex-KPT custodian Abdul Ghani in 62nd minute, before Arif Shehzad struck the post twice (64′ and 70′) as the score remained 1-0. Jaffar Ullah then missed a chance to put Burma Mohammadan 2-0 up in 72nd minute.

With seconds left, Irfan Junejo created a superb chance for team mate Hasnat Shafi to score, and Hasnat finished with aplomb to finally equalise for FC Rovers in 91st minute to share the points at the end. Referees were M Umar, Abdul Wahid, Babar Khan, and match commissioner Abdul Karim.

The result left both FC Rovers and Burma Mohammadan lie level with 4 points from 2 games each in KUFL Super League round so far
