The 8th Pakistan Premier Football League 2011 restarted after Ramazan-Eid break with 2 matches held in Karachi today on 15 Sept 2011.

In one match, Karachi Port Trust (KPT) failed to hold on to their lead as Baloch FC Nushki grabbed an equaliser very late in the game at Sharafi Goth Stadium, Karachi. Zafar Majeed gave KPT the lead after 12 minutes and it seemed to be enough for them, only for Baloch FC’s Sanaullah to equalise in dying seconds of the match (90+5′) to deny KPT the win and force a draw.

In the second match, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) managed to avoid loss against Muslim FC Chaman with a 1-1 draw at Peoples Stadium, Mauripur Road in Karachi. Muslim FC took the lead through Saeed Ahmed after 17 minutes before Shakir Lashir equalised for PIA in 82nd minute to share the points at the end.

KARACHI: Sanaullah scored a late goal as Nushki’s Baloch FC held Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to a 1-1 draw while the match between Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Chaman’s Muslim FC also ended in a 1-1 stalemate as the eighth edition of the Pakistan Premier Football League resumed here at different venues on Thursday.

At the Korangi Baloch Football Ground in Sharafi Goth, Sanaullah scored with a 20-yard drive on a corner-kick rebound in the dying moments to help Boloch FC hold KPT and clinch a crucial point. Earlier, in the first half KPT took the lead through Zafar Majeed who lobbed a setter over the advancing goalie and captain Sher Zaman in the 12th minute.

Karachi Port Trust (KPT), who have lost their few key players due to their poor pay-system, failed to demonstrate the kind of authority against their weaker opponents as they missed out a handful of open net chances, particularly in the last quarter of the play.

KPT Sports Manager Shah Naeem Zafar said that the untrimmed grass on the pitch was a big hurdle for his boys.

“The grass was left untrimmed which needed a lot of stamina from the players and our boys looked tired in the second half and could not perform properly,” Shah told ‘The News’ after the match. “As you know, we also don’t have five to six of our key players anymore as they have joined other teams. But still we will try to finish the league at a respectable place,” he added.

With the output, KPT stretched their points to ten from eight games while Baloch FC raised their tally to seven from seven meetings.

Meanwhile, PIA, occupying second spot after leaders KRL, also had an unlucky day when they were stunned by Muslim FC with a 1-1 draw at the Peoples Sports Complex.

Saeed Ahmed put Muslim FC in front with a splendid field effort in the 17th minute. However, after the lead was taken, Muslim FC opted for defensive display which created problems for PIA frontline. PIA got their first real chance in the 75th minute but international striker Shakir Lashari saw his heavy shot crashing the post. Following a series of incisive rallies Shakir Lashari, however, remained lucky when his similar close-range drive went into the net after deflecting off the post eight minutes from full time.

PIA coach Shamim Khan said that it was not his team’s day.

“No doubt, it was not our day. We were unlucky as four shots of our players hit the post,” he told this correspondent.

“The pitch was dry but the grass was not properly cut down which affected the flow of the ball. But after all the disadvantage was not only for us but for our oppositions as well,” the former international said.

The draw took PIA points to 19 from nine matches while Muslim FC moved their tally to 11 points from seven appearances.

On Friday (today), Habib Bank Limited (HBL) will face Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) at the Peoples Sports Complex.
