KARACHI: Despite the approval of Rs50 million as annual budget, the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) will be unable to hire a foreign coach for the national team.

According to a PFF official, the government has approved the amount that will be utilised on developmental projects. However, the recruitment of a foreign coach still lies in the doldrums due to financial constraints after the budget was discussed in the annual PFF Executive Meeting.

“The potential coaching candidates we are looking for are charging around $30,000,” the official told The Express Tribune. “The government has approved the funds but the Pakistan Sports Board is yet to give us our remaining Rs20 million despite the fact that it has been sent to them by the government.”

Meanwhile, according to the PFF Secretary Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi, hiring a coach for the national team was a priority. However plans to promote the sport in the country and domestic development programmes could not be compromised.
