Karachi football round-up: Musa XI win Saqib Memorial

Musa XI (Usmanabad) beat Sher Islam FC (Rasheedabad) 3-1 to win the final of the 6th All-Karachi Saqib Kazmi Memorial Floodlit Football Tournament held at Colony Star Ground in North Karachi on 29 May 2011. Musa XI star Muhammad Tariq scored a brilliant hat-trick to help his side lift the winner’s trophy and become tournament;s top scorer. Musa XI and Sher Islam FC had previously won their semi-final clashes against Manghopir XI and hosts Colony Star respectively to reach the final of the tournament.

Muhammad Tariq gave Musa XI a 2-0 lead before half time by scoring twice in 11th and 26th minutes. In second half, Musa XI maintained their dominance over Sher Islam with Muhammad Tariq soon completing his hat-trick in fine style by scoring once more in 2nd half. In final moments of the game, Sher Islam won a penalty which was duly dispatched by Liaquat Ali to score a consolation goal for his side as Musa XI finished the game as champions with their 3-1 win. Referee was Babar Khan.

The final was attended by Shahid Afzal from Aaj TV as chief guest, as he met the teams at half time and then distributed finalist trophies and prizes to the winners and losers of the final. Shahid Afzal also stated that Colony Star Ground will also host a Ramzan Floodlit Football Cup during the holy month of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak. Other guests present were sports journalist Riaz Ahmed, football organiser Master Riasat Ali from Nawabshah, ex-member Zone Central FA Abdul Karim, tournament organising secretary Saad Kazmi, Khalid Majeed et al.

The secretary of Golden Star FC (New Karachi), Abdul Karim, congratulated the newly elected members of Karachi Zonal FA Central for accepting their responsibility of administrating football in a respectful and fair manner. Abdul Karim congratulated Aqeel Tazeem Naqvi (president), Saleem Patni, Muhammad Shamim, Aqeel Ahmed Bilgirami (vice presidents), Hameedullah Khan, Hosam Uddin, Muhammad Sharif, and Muhammad Saeed (general congress members) for winning the elections and expressed his full support towards the new Central Zone administration for benefit of football in Karachi.

The murder of renowned Lyari football Ismail Baba (KPT) was mourned in a special congress session of Karachi Zonal FA Central held in his memory. Central Zone president Aqeel Tazeem Naqvi headed the meeting which was attended by vice presidents Saleem Patni, Muhammad Shamim, Aqeel Ahmed Bilgirami, Ibn-e-Abbas, Adam Jan, general congress members Hameedullah Khan, M. Sharif and M. Saeed. The members offered their condolences to Ismail Baba’s family and prayed for his departed.

They eulogised Ismail Baba’s love of football and how many Lyari kids looked up to him as a role model in such difficult times when he was coach of the newly formed State Life team in his final days before his unexpected murder during gang violence escalations in Lyari.
