Line-ups:

NPC XI: Ritesh (GK) , Rakesh, Suraj, Rabin, Parbat, Bharat, Jumanu, Yogesh, Bhola, Suman, Ramesh

WAPDA: Abdul Aziz (GK), Muhammad Ahmad, Muhammed Asif, Naveed Akram, Mehmood Khan, Syed Arif Hussain, Zulfikar Shah, Arif Mehmood, Jadid Khan Pathan, Manzoor Ahmed

Match Update [Half Time]

Nepal Police Club started brightly by going on the attack from first whistle, pressurising WAPDA as they attacked Abdul Aziz’s goal with determination and cheered on by a reasonable crowd of around 2-3 thousand home fans. But WAPDA started settling in well after 10 minutes because of their more physical presence and slowly gaining ground in the match.

NPC maintained pressure and missed a few glorious chances, allowing WAPDA to take the lead in 38th minute through star striker and captain Arif ‘Arifi’ Mehmood from Multan who broke the off-side trap and scored from a tight angle. However soon after, Naveed Akram got a yellow card just before half time with WAPDA leading 1-0.

Match Update [Full Time]

WAPDA hang on to their clean sheet as they win 2-0 at the end with an unmarked Jadeed Khan Pathan scoring from a cross by Syed Arif Hussain in 89th minute to double WAPDA’s lead against a lacklustre Nepal Police Club side. NPC will be bitterly disappointed in their 2nd half performance as they failed to convert their chances and losing tempo as the half progressed with WAPDA’s defence and goalkeeper Abdul Aziz in great form.

However, WAPDA will be facing disciplinary trouble because of 5 players getting booked (Naveed Akram, Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Syed Arif Hussain, Muhammad Asif, and Muhammad Ahmed) for yellow card offences, automatically leading to a hefty US$ 5000 fine by AFC. Also, WAPDA’s failing to convert many chances to increase their lead with Arif Mehmood being guilty party.

But make no mistake, this was a brilliant start by WAPDA in an otherwise challenging group for AFC President’s Cup. WAPDA lead the Group C tables with 3 points now, with FC Balkan (Turkmenistan) and Taiwan Power Company (Chinese Taipei) playing a 1-1 draw in other game and getting 1 point each.
