Karachi: The following 8 teams qualified for the Quarter Finals of 9th AKU Inter-University Football Tournament being organized by AKU Sports Centre at the AKU Football Ground.
NED University of Engineering & Technology will play against PNEC-NUST Karachi Campus, Hamdard University (HU) will play against PAF-KIET, Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST) will take on host Aga Khan University (AKU) while Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering & Management Sciences (BUITEMS) will play against Institute of Business Administration (IBA-United).
Meanwhile the final two group stage matches were decided on Monday, 11 April 2011. In Group ‘A’, PAF-KIET qualified for quarterfinals when they beat Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) 2-0 after second half goals from Tahir Jawad (35′) and Malik Umair (60′). PAF-KIET now face Hamdard University in quarter-finals. All the quarter-finals are scheduled for Tuesday, 12 April 2011.
In Group ‘C’, the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) beat Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) 3-2 after a thrilling contest between both sides. Osama Ashaqeen scored opening goal for IoBM in 14th minute which Babar Khan equalised for SSUET in 21st minute. However, Imran Imtiaz gave IoBM a 2-1 lead in 25th minute just before half time. Waheed Ahmed managed to equalise again for SSUET in 37th minute but FC Rovers star Irfan Junejo gave IoBM a 3-2 lead in 46th minute which they maintained till the end for 3 points to bow out of the tournament with a consolation win.
The matches were supervised by Referees Naseer Umar, Khalid Mumtaz, M. Yousuf, and Javed Bangash, with Official Scorer Sajjad Akbar and Match Commissioner Munawar Khan.
