Lahore 4th Feb. 2011:

Pakistan National Team today won 5-0 in a friendly match held at MTFC Ground against an All Star Lahore Selection coached and captained by Faisal Amir and managed by FPDC Lahore Correspondent  Gauhar Mahmood Azeem.

Both sides showed great discipline and fair play with each other. The Lahore-select shook hands with their national team counterparts as well as introducing themselves to head coach Tariq Lutfi as well as his assistants Gohar Zaman, Nasir Ismail, and Aslam Khan.

The match was very equal in the first 20 Minutes, but then Pakistan scored twice in 30th and 40th minute. There were doubts about offside for those goals but lack of linesmen to judge meant both teams accepted the goals without any problem as Nasir Ismail was guest referee.

After the break the second half started very quick and the match was again to be a close one. Pakistan then showed what they learned from coach Tariq Lutfi and two more Goals were scored in the 70th Minute and just after that as the impressive Lahore Athletico side could not respond against the onslaught.

The two goals were scored by Rizwan and Jadeed Khan, and were amazing shots from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Kamran (LESCO) of Athletico Lahore all ends up. The two superb strikes were applauded by both sets of players.

The National Team tried as much as 18 Players for the match and Canadian-Pakistani goalkeeper from Denmark, Yousuf Butt played the first half where he did organise his defence better but was rarely troubled, while the second half was played by KESC Goalkeeper M. Umar. Best players in the game were Rizwan Asif (KRL) and a very good Mehmood Khan (WAPDA). Irfan Khan from Bradford Park Avenue AFC came on in the second half. Jadid Khan Pathan scored a good goal from outside the box.

The Athletico Lahore XI had mostly boys from Fame FC (Zaka Gondal, rising star Usman Virk, etc) with some guests like Waqas, as well as from Wohaib FC (Idriss etc) and Muhammad Ahmed from WAPDA while Faisal Amir Khan was player-coach for the side. Muhammad Ahmed and Usman Virk impressed with his energetic and ambitious displays.

At the end of the game, both sets of players applauded each other and had a good time on the pitch.

Pakistan’s National Team will leave for Thailand on Sunday and all people are invited to see off the team at 4.15 pm at Lahore’s Football House (Ferozpur Road).

It was a great game.. I wish i had played more and got some rhythm..:(
i wanted to play good but frst 10 minutes was too difficult to read the game and play like them with time i get that too.
I hope lutfi will invite our team again to play against his team and next time we will be more good and fight for a good result.

Such kind of practice games are VITAL for building team cohesion and putting all their training in real time situations. Great initiative by FPDC staffers and Faisal Amir Khan for arranging the side so quickly and playing good football :)

Mehmood Khan of WAPDA or KRL?

Did Muhammad Riaz play? How was he? And Saddam Hussain? And how was Muhammed Umer at keeper?

Also, who is playing in the backline now that Haji is injured? And how was the defence?

    Long ball or short passing?

  • abdulsidd

Oh, and who were all the goal scorers? You mentioned Rizwan and Jadeed. Who else scored?

  • Quyyam Furqan

I took above all pics of the match……….very fast match…….

      thank you qayyum very much

    @abdulsidd

Main characteristic shown by Pakistani Nation team was their run. Their run was outstanding. Boys showed extra ordinary sprints and stamina. It looked like as they are relying on their run very much. Having a good run is good but their reliance on it is not a healthy sign.

    Ball control was good.

Nation team boys passed well particularly passing inside the opponent’s D was good.

    Forward line was impressive.

    Midfield was not bad.

Defense could not impress perhaps due to the reason that All Star Lahore’s attack line could not bring more balls into the national XI D to help us assessing nation XI defense line.

Personally I am satisfied with nation team but only doggy part is defense.

Thanks. As I said before, considering our weak defence, we should adopt a philosophy of ‘best defence is offence’.

proud moment for gauhar only got defeated by 5-0…:-p

mehmood khan was the man of the match today for the pakistan team and for our team it was ahmed of wapda
guys it was really very hard to organise the team in such a short notice and when sajjad of real lahore (coach ) was busy in his brothers wedding. anyways gauhar was also very very cooperative.
so were all the team members.
we did not get time to warm up and it was also our fault as after juma prayers some players were late.
any ways i took it as a challenge and called up all (semi-fit) players as in winter lahoris get less time to train.
the point is pakistan team needed a good, well mannered match and we gave them one.
through out the whole match the ball was played on the ground and no aireal balls (dhara) played by both teams..

Athletico lahore fc was brilliant today apart from that i missed a penalty and rattled the cross bar.
some of the tactical points i want to share with the u guys and coaches are following .

our team was good untill our 5 midfileders were playing in diamond plus 1 formation. but yasir did not mark properly after 12 -15 minnutes and was breathless that was when trouble started. same was the case with shahid.
ahmed, adrees and waqas were toying with the opponents. on corners ahsan and khurram saleem got chances to (1) score through bullet crosses of idrees but their headers wwent a little wide.
mr. lutfi should see how, where, why these two touched the ball in 6 yard box where as they are both not original forwards.this is something of great concern for nasir ismail and gauhar.
i had called samar ishaq . he had a tournament match . he was still willing to come but i told him next time inshallah.
anyways i would also thank mr. hafiz salman butt for allowing his players to play too.

    2) the national team took two shots on goal in the entire match which both resulted in goals. perhaps the use five midfields was the caz.
nasir ismail was watching the match and he should tell them to shot on sight of goal every third attack.

    3) the second half brought the main team in action and most of the battle for possession was fought in center and i think AL fc were very good in it and played the way i wanted them to play. while feeding to forwards was not upto standard by our mf.
on the other hand national team was good in passing was Excellent but poor crossing, unaccurate too.
me and usman intercepted three dozen crosses atleast.
had any club of lahore played theyu would have easily conceded 12-14 goals as u-16 defeated nadeem fc 9-0 and mint fc 8-0 too.
real lahore played 9-6 against u-13 in pels ground .
    this was u-21
i am personally satisfied with the boys performance.
    4) no one from national team got injured today that is the main lus point today.
they got match practice, noticed their flaws and plus points.

  • Majid

Yes, I need to agree with Faisal on his analysis, if our headers were little bit better and penalty taken by Faisal Amir could go into goal it would be 5-3. Crosses by Idress of ASL was more like shoots rather than a good dipping cornet shots. National XI defense should have intercepted them. Other teams will not miss those kind of corners.

One must accept that it was a good practice for national XI.

  • abdulsidd

The pitch looks very poor. Even Punjab Stadium would have been better. I think some of the injuries in this camp might have been because of the pitch. But now they will go to Thailand, so they can train and play on some better pitches, InshaAllah.

  • faisal amir

no grass but level and soft then punjab stadium sidd.

  • Amjad Khan

5-0 is not a good result, believe me … that too played with a local club, actuallly they were all mix players & had not been playing together if i’m not wrong.

The result should have been something like 8-0 or something.

  • faisal amir

there were 6 internationals in athletico lahores fc.
    fawad u-19 2003
    khurram saleem u-19 2003
    ahmed seniors
    idrees u-23 2010
    kamran gk u-16 2000
    waqas u-19 2003

had i not played as sweeper we would have lost 12 or 14-0. that is a reality
whereas i badly wanted to play as a striker but in next match i might play as striker or midfield.
