KESC crush HBL to jump to second place as NBP hold KPT to a draw

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) moved to the second spot after beating Habib Bank 3-0 while KPT fought back to hold National Bank to a 2-2 draw in matches of the Pakistan Premier Football League held here on Tuesday.

Here at the Peoples Sports Complex, KESC beat HBL to lift themselves to the second place with 47 points from 24 matches.

KESC, led by former Pakistan captain Mohammad Essa got the lead in the 22nd minute through Abdul Ghafoor.

Soon after the breather international striker Abdul Rehman consolidated KESC’s lead with a heavy drive from close range before Mohammad Essa sealed their fate with a goal on penalty four minutes later.

The loss left Habib Bank reeling at 18 points from 25 games.

Meanwhile, here at the KPT Stadium, National Bank and hosts KPT played a 2-2 draw. At one stage National Bank were leading 2-0 through goals from Mohammad Ashfaq (9th minute) and Faisal (57th minute) but KPT, trained by former international athlete Mohammad Talib, fought back to land two goals in a space of five minutes to earn a crucial point.

Captain Akhtar Mamol reduced KPT’s deficit to 1-2 on penalty in the 71st minute before Mohammad bin Younis scored the equaliser on a fine cross from right winger Zafar Majeed in the 74th minute.

KPT inflated their points to 41 from 23 games while National Bank moved to 28 from 24 meetings.

Meanwhile, in the PFFL match played in Lahore, winger Wasim struck the lone goal to give Police a 1-0 win over PTV.
