WAPDA earn 11th consecutive win: Army, PAF, KESC march on

Lahore, 20 October: Pakistan WAPDA, well on the way to their eighth title, extended their lead further when they recorded eleventh successive win in the Pakistan Premier Football League 2010. However their win against PIA was patchy at Garhi Shahu’s Railway Stadium, Lahore as they struck only once in 90-minute play. Their lone goal getter was spearhead Arif Mehmood who slammed the lone goal in the 12th minute. Zeeshan Javed took along ball from Zulfiqar Shah, shimmied down the right flank and cut the ball back for Arif who left keeper Abu Bakar stranded with low drive on left corner.

WAPDA, having 34 points in 12 games,  might have scored another in the 25th minute but Zeeshan failed to beat Bakar. WAPDA led 1-0 at interval they were lucky not to concede equalizer in the 76th minute when MPIA’s stopper Muhammad Haji’s drive from 35 metre beat keeper Rao Yamin but cross bar blocked the ball from going into cage. The final 13 minute of the game saw WAPDA in full control but Khuda Bakhsh 77th, 88th min and Arif 89,90+1min floored easy opportunities.

Young Blood, Sahiwal suffered their eighth defeat when they went down 1-3 to star-studded KESC at Rai Ali Nawaz Stadium, near Fareed Town Police Station, Sahiwal. The electricitymen  dominated the proceedings right from the words go and controlled the situation with two sweetly-timed goals inside 29 minutes. Aurangzeb Sr landed opener in the 22nd minute and Muhammad Rasool steered the second seven minutes later. KESC led 2-0 at interval and home team pulled one back in the 62nd minute through Asif Mansoor. It was second goal for Asif who joined his younger brother Asim as two-goal scorers in the show. But 15 minutes from time skipper Muhammad Essa showed his class with classical goal.

Army notched their sixth win when they imposed slender 1-0 win over depleted SSGC at Municipal Stadium, Saidpur Road, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi. The precious goal of listless match was scored by Faisalabad-born Muhammad Ikram in the 45th minute. It was disappointing match for Karachi-based team as their stopper Shahid Jr was sent off by Referee Jehangir Khan for getting two Yellow Cards in the 69th and 80th minute.

Red Card also marred PAF – Nushki’s Baloch FC match at Qayyum Stadium, near Saddar, Bara Road, Peshawar Cantt that saw airmen getting 3-0 win. PAF led 1-0 at interval through Muhammad Zeeshan’s 63rd minute goal. They also had  upper hand in the second session with goals from Muhammad Mujahid 63rd min and Amir Hussain 86th min. Nushki had tough time in the match and they lost their midfielder Habib Ullah who was given Red card after the match by Referee Muhammad Amin following his second caution (first one was in 36th minute).
