SSGC finally earn win: overpower PEL 3-1

Lahore, 15 October: Pakistan Premier Football League 2010 is in full swing nation wide and four more matches were decided on Friday. SSGC managed their first win of the competition when they fired two goals in last ten minutes to beat PEL 3-1 at Model Town Football Academy Ground, Lahore. It was big sigh of relief for their officials Nawab Karim Uddin, Naseem Ahmed and Javed Ahmed as they gained full three points from a PPFL match for the first time despite being 0-1 down at one stage.

PEL opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when FIFA Referee Rana Naseer Ahmed penalized SSGC’s stopper Shahid Jr for handball infringement and immediately point to the spot. Stopper Muhammad Shaire made no mistake from penalty mark and hammered the ball into left corner past keeper Adnan Ahmed. But their joy was shortlived as ten minutes later right winger Zia Ur Rehman curled the ball from right wing and lanky spearhead Asim Faiz’s header proved too smart for keeper Saqib Hanif. It was 1-1 at interval and SSGC went ahead in the 80th minute. Zia ur Reham, who played brilliantly in the match alongwith Imran, sent a crashing drive from right flank that took deflection off stopper Ghazanfer and flew past Saqib. Match Commissioner Mian Rizwan Ali credited the goal to Zia as his try was goalmouth.

PEL suffered another blow in the 85th minute when their skipper and right full Shah Nawaz swept lovely corner from right flank and unmarked midfielder Sabir Khan do the needful with fierce header. PEL might have reduced the arrears but Muzaffar Ali saw his forceful drive ricocheted off cross-bar. The injury time saw Rana giving marching orders to players of both teams – Muzaffar Ali (PEL), Shahid Jr (SSGC) – for a risky mid-air clash just outside PEL’s area.

KESC had disappointed time at Municipal Stadium, Saidpur Road, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi. They lost their skipper Muhammnad Essa through 72nd minute Red Card shown by Kohat-based Referee Khurram Shahzad and suffered 0-3 defeat at the hands of titlist KRL. International Muhammad Qasim was star performer for the winners with two second half goals in the 51st, 57th minute after 1-0 up at interval with first-half scorer being Muhammad Shahid (22nd min).

PMC Athletico Club drew 1-1 with Baloch FC, Nushki at PMC Ground, Faisalabad. Both the goals emerged in the first session with Nushki’s striker Wali Khan neutralizing Naveed Mumtaz’s 36th minute goal eight minutes later.

Same scoreline was recorded win Navy-PIA tense clash at Municipal Stadium, Saidpur Road, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi. Both the team shared one goal and one point. PIA were the first to show promise with skipper Nasr Ullah Khan’s goal in the 19th minute but they suffered agony when their stopper Muhammad Haji was given Red card in the 30th minute. The ten-men airlines showed hesitation for the rest of the match and failed to stop the equalizer scored by midfielder Muhammad Bilal in the 40th minute. There was no scoring in the second session.
