Pakistan Premier League 2010 Begins!

KARACHI, Sept 16: The Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) kicked off at five cities simultaneously with three wins and two drawn matches on Thursday.

The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) beat the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) 3-1 at the KPT-Benazir Sports Complex in Karachi. Two goals for the winners were scored by Orangzeb Sr (10th and 31st mins) while Mohammad Rasool added one more in the 69th minute. Mohammad bin Yousuf, meanwhile, scored the lone goal for the losing side in the 59th minute.

An all-services affair at the Municipal Stadium in Rawalpindi saw the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) edging past Pakistan Army 1-0. The decider came through Mohammad Mujahid in the 43rd minute.

Meanwhile, Young Blood FC, this year’s debutant team, also scored a 1-0 win in their opening match against PMC Athletico Club at the Rai Ali Nawaz Stadium in Sahiwal. The goal was scored by Ghulam Farid in the 12th minute.

The much-hyped encounter between the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and Pak Elektron Limited (PEL) at Lahore’s Model Town Football Academy (MTFA) ground ended in a 2-2 draw. The goals for Wapda were scored by Imran Niazi (14th min) and their captain Arif Mahmood (72nd min). The PEL scored through Ijaz Sarfraz (60th min) and their captain Asmatullah (78th min).

Meanwhile, the match between Baloch FC and Afghan FC at the Nushki Stadium in Nushki ended in a goalless draw.

Friday’s fixtures: NBP v SSGC at Korangi Baloch Stadium, Karachi; HBL v PIA at Peoples Sports Complex, Karachi.
