Lahore , 5 December : Pakistan Football Federation (PFF)’s President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has asked all the captains of participants of simultaneously ongoing three PFF events – Pakistan Premier League, Pakistan Football Federation League and PFF U14 Youth Cup – to wrap captain’s band around their arm to distinguish him from other team mates. It has been noticed that managers/coach of several teams used to ignore this practice which can put them under trouble in future as Match Commissioners/Referee Assessor/Referees deserve the right to bring the team’s official and captain under punishment.”
The fourth Pakistan Premier League (PPL), comprising 14 foremost teams of country, will provide the 53rd National Champion of Pakistan which will qualify for fourth AFC President Cup 2008. Fourteen teams are showing their status in PFF League, the Tier-II event of PFF, which will dig out two teams for next season PPL while first-ever PFF Youth Cup for U14 lads launched under the directive of PFF President to analyze the movement and commitment of 26 youth football coaches working under the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) AID-27 Financial Assistance Scheme.
“Throughout every game of soccer, each team must have a team captain on the field of play and he or she must wear a captain’s armband. The armband is usually worn around the upper part of the arm and is of a different color to the playing shirt. This makes it easier for the referees to recognize the captain on the field during the game. I have seen several matches of Germany’s World Cup last year, and didn’t see a single skipper missing captain’s armband.”
“Why do the referees need to recognize the captain ? The most important reason is because the captain is responsible for the behavior of all of the players in the team. If the captain is substituted or suspended the armband or ribbon must be transferred to another member of the team on the field,” said Faisal, also member of AFC Disciplinary Committee, adding that captain’s armband is compulsory for all the teams who used to play the event under jurisdiction of PFF.
